About the project
Pro Piping Products SRL faced exactly this dilemma. They knew their Microsoft environment needed a serious upgrade, but they couldn’t afford to leave their security posture vulnerable during the transition. Instead of treating migration and security as separate projects, we helped them tackle both challenges simultaneously. The scope was straightforward: get Pro Piping Products onto a modern Microsoft 365 platform while building a rock-solid security foundation from day one.
This meant rolling out Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview to lock down endpoints, email and cloud applications. At the same time, we configured Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Microsoft Entra ID to handle device management, access controls and identity security.
The Ascendro team structured everything around two non-negotiables:
- Zero disruption migration: Users needed to keep working normally throughout the entire process
- Enterprise-grade security: Every device, application and piece of data needed proper protection
By handling migration and security together, the client avoided the headache of managing multiple vendors and timelines. Instead, they got a cohesive Microsoft environment built for the long haul.
Challenges
The SharePoint migration turned out to be the trickiest part of the entire project. Here’s the thing about SharePoint tenant-to-tenant migrations: even Microsoft’s own tools aren’t perfect. The SharePoint Migration Tool and Migration Manager work well for some scenarios, but they’re still evolving and often need significant customization to handle complex environments.
Add in the complexity of coordinating cloud migration with security policy deployment and you’ve got a project that demands careful planning and flawless execution.
Solution
Rather than creating a brand-new Microsoft 365 tenant (which many providers default to), we decided to migrate the existing tenant. This approach eliminated duplicate configurations and reduced the overall complexity significantly.
Once the migration wrapped up, we implemented the complete security stack: Microsoft Defender handled endpoint and email threats, Microsoft Purview took care of data protection and Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) managed device compliance. Microsoft Entra ID became the central hub for identity management and access policies.
For network security, we deployed Fortinet’s high-availability and SSL-VPN solutions running FortiGateOS, giving the team secure remote access and bulletproof network resilience.

The migration went off without a hitch. No downtime, no frustrated users and no emergency calls. By preserving the existing tenant structure, Pro Piping Products kept all their configurations intact, saving weeks of post-migration setup work.
The security implementation happened entirely outside business hours, meaning zero impact on daily operations. No system downtime, no workflow interruptions and no productivity hits.
